There are 20,000 Jews in Kansas City, a population large enough to support a day school (K-12) and in general, to be a full functioning community. At the same time they are also small enough that the spirit of cooperation and mutual respect prevails most of the time.
The Mini-School was opened in Overland Park to answer the community’s need for a serious adult education program. For the past 15 years, it has been an integral part of the fabric of Jewish life in Kansas City. Students participate actively in both the Core program and the Scholars Curriculum. In addition, this community of life-long learners enthusiastically leads the way in many other educational opportunities in the Kansas City Jewish community.
At the helm as its director since 2007, Jeff Goldenberg seeks to provide a variety of potential entry points for potential students. “The goal is not just to fill our rosters, but rather strengthen the community through knowledge and understanding,” Goldenberg explains. “Melton enables us to do this quite effectively with such a solid curriculum. The addition of Scholars Curriculum courses provides us with a known commodity that our graduates have come to expect.”
