July Returnees 06 Israel Seminar
The 2006 FMAMA Returnees Seminar was memorable in so many ways. Due to the situation in the North we had to detour from our original itinerary, but the change of plans in no way diminished the excellence and vitality of our learning experience. Many incredible individuals come to mind as I reflect on my ten days in Israel.
One man in particular who made an indelible impression was Dr Riad Agbaria-an Israeli Arab who heads the Clinical Pharmacology Department at Ben-Gurion University. His personal, compelling story and his committment to the Bedouin students in his charge are truly inspiring. We learned a lot from his lecture and the lively question and answer period that followed.
During this time of conflict in the Middle East, I only wish that the international community could witness the friendship and collaboration between so many in the Israeli Jewish and Israeli Arab segments of society.
