Alumni Israel Update with Dr. Yonatan Mirvis
On October 13, 2010, we offered International Alumni Association members the opportunity to discuss current events affecting Israel with Dr. Yonatan Mirvis, FMAMS International Director. This was the first of a series of calls set up for 2010-2011 exclusively for, and at no cost to, FMAMS International Alumni Association members.
With thirteen IAA members participating, Yonatan offered his perspective on the Israeli economy; Netanyahu’s announcement that a Palestinian declaration recognizing Israel as a Jewish State would pave the way to a continuation of the settlement freeze; and the Palestinian right of return. Yonatan then invited participant questions and comments. As noted by IAA member Marilane Nather from Austin, TX:
I've allowed myself the luxury to savor and digest the Israel Update with Yonatan, whose dispatches I've always enjoyed. The session went very well. Yonatan set the agenda according to our expressed interests, and was open to all our questions. I felt privileged to be part of the cyberspace meeting but it felt as if I was sitting in a living room listening to a good, knowledgeable friend. The limited attendance worked well. It would have been more awkward, I believe, had forty people been sitting in. As always, the future of Israel consumes us.
The next Israel Update will be December 4, 2010, at 1:00 CST. IAA members will be invited to register in mid-November for this call. For more information about these updates and the International Alumni Association, please contact Jody Hyman at jhyman@fmams.org.il.
