On Sunday, April 29, 150 Melton graduates and faculty gathered to do the Melton thing: LEARN! Dr. Barry Holtz, Professor of Education, Jewish Theological Seminary, N.Y., taught us about “Jewish Texts and the Lives We Live Today.” We dedicated our learning to Florence, of blessed memory, and she was very much in our hearts on this special occasion.
Following a sumptuous brunch, one of our alumni, Carole Sibel, to the delight of her audience, sang her own version of Supercalifragilisticexpialidocius.
Went into the Melton course with much anticipation
Knowing in two years we’d gain a Jewish education.
Here we are, the graduates, in joyous celebration
Turn now to your classmates and give them congratulations.
Studying each week made us real proud of our tradition
Matzah, mitzvah, and mezuzahs come with our religion
Keeping kosher and Shabbat’s a personal decision.
Even felt the cutting edge behind a circumcision.
God and prayer and synagogue created an impression
Holidays and miracles gave way to free expression
Ethics of our fathers were a part of every session.
Praise the Lord we never have to go into confession.
Even though the work was hard we never, ever gave in.
Living life the Jewish way will always be our haven.
Thank you, Judy Meltzer. About you we are ravin”
You have made a miracle - We’re each a Melton mavin.
Celebrating ten years, 750 graduates, and “text messaging” Melton style made for a joyous two hours. Our hope is that the next ten years at the Melton school in Baltimore will be just as rewarding.
