2ND INTERNATIONAL ALUMNI RETREAT: BASKING IN THE MINI-SCHOOL ATMOSPHERE

The International Alumni Association Retreat was a huge success in Boca Raton, this past February 6-8. Over 40 alumni attended an event which showed the breadth and depth of Jewish learning on many levels. Rose Weitz (Boca Raton ’02) as the Chairperson of the Alumni Association with Dorothy Wizer (Richmond/Boca Raton ’03) and Karen Altschul (Boca Raton ’03) as Chairpeople of the Retreat created an experience that was intellectually engaging and warm for all who attended.
The schools represented this year include: Boca Raton, Broward, Chicago, Columbus, Detroit, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Louisville, Melbourne, Portland, Philadelphia, Richmond, Sarasota, Washington DC, Westchester and Wilmington. In addition our Directors Debby Malissa (Philadephia), Barbara Kabatznik (Boca Raton), and Judy Asuleen (Broward County) participated and contributed to the success of this Retreat.
Participants studied Jewish texts and heard presentations on the theme of The Challenge of Being One People. Teachers were Zohar Raviv, Yonatan Mirvis, Betsy Katz, Haim Aronovitz, Morey Schwartz, Michael Balinsky, David Chack, and a special presentation by Rachel Elior, Professor of Jewish Thought at The Hebrew University.
A special presentation was also made to Marion Hamermesh, former Director of the Wilmington, Delaware Mini-School. Marion was given a certificate by Florence Melton for her leadership in starting the International Alumni Association and for her dedication at the Wilmington Mini-School.
The alumni came away exhilarated and ready to refresh your local alumni. In the words of Jack Gold (Columbus 03) "I have attended many, many professional and educational seminars and the FMAMS Alumni Retreat ranks among the very best. The Boca Babes’ planning was as good as any professional organization and the content of the sessions was simply terrific. And above all, we basked in the FMAMS atmosphere. What a high!!!"
