Raleigh Graduation 2006

MELTON HAGSHAMAH – CELEBRATION OF ACCOMPLISHMENT

On June 5, Twenty six students graduated from the Raleigh-Cary Melton School in a ceremony held at the JCC. These adult learners completed two years of weekly classes and studied subjects including Jewish theology, history, and ethics.

The Florence Melton Adult Mini-School, a project of The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, is the largest pluralistic adult Jewish education network in the world and in Raleigh; we are proud to be a part of this important adult Jewish education network.

The evening was a wonderful culmination of the two years of enriching study, but the graduates agreed that this was not an end to their study, but a significant entry into joining the Jewish conversation. Jewish learning was now a way of life for them and they look forward to the study opportunities that the Melton Graduate program has to offer.

But the evening was not just about completing the undergraduate curriculum.  We celebrated everyone who was involved in Melton learning this year.  This includes all of the first year students as well as all of the graduate students – 113 in all.  Thus, the evening was termed “hagshamah” accomplishment – celebration of a milestone on the lifelong journey of Jewish learning.
