MELBOURNE GRADUATION:
INAUGURAL MORRIS JOFFE FACULTY DEVELOPMENT SCHOLARSHIP

Melbourne Graduation
L-R Sandy Benjamin (Chair of Melbourne FMAMS); Evelyn Rose (family on behalf of Ittay Flescher who is in Israel), Lindsey Joffe; Steven Joffe (Children of Morris Joffe a'h)

The Melbourne FMAMS Graduation Ceremony 2007 was distinguished by the awarding of the inaugural Morris Joffe Faculty Development Scholarship.
This annual award has been established to honor the memory of the late Morris Joffe – a passionate Melton student and larger than life character who was transformed by learning at Melton classes and whose presence in classes is still sorely missed.  Morris valued learning so highly and was only too aware of the benefits afforded by educational opportunities. As a young man in South Africa he was awarded a scholarship to study law, an anonymous gesture of
generosity that totally changed his professional life.  When his daughter and Leah Justin, FMAMS Director in Melbourne, spoke about ways of honoring his memory, it seemed so apposite to offer a learning opportunity particularly for his beloved teachers who continue to give so much and who reawakened in him his love of Judaism.

This award is to be offered annually by his children Lindsey and Steven and their families and will enable a Faculty member to attend the Annual Faculty Seminar and so benefit from the stimulation of collegiate learning. Other members of the family will also contribute to this fund on family occasions and so we can continue to offer Faculty enrichment opportunities.

As he himself said at his Graduation in 1998 about continuing on learning at Melton .. "Thank goodness in Judaism there is no finishing line."
