On
the final morning of the Israel Seminar this past June, 87
participants gathered at the Citadel Hotel in Jerusalem for
a session with the Vice-President of the Hebrew University
of Jerusalem, Mr. Avi Armoni. Mr. Armoni welcomed the
guests to Israel and described the Florence Melton Adult Mini-School
as the dynamo, the power that can help the Jews to change
the world, stressing that it is education that should keep
us together. He also conveyed to the participants the relationship
between the Mini-School and the Hebrew University and how
those present should be proud not only to be Meltonians but
also proud to be a part of the University. Also present at
the meeting were Ms. Shafi Belek, director of companies
and not-for-profit organizations of the University, Dr.
Howie Deitcher, Director of the Melton Centre, and Dr.
Yonatan Mirvis, International Director of the Mini-School,
who chaired this final plenary session of a highly successful
seminar.
Rabbi
Dr. Amy Wallk Katz, immediate past director of the Mini-School
in Kansas City, who has for the past three years bought large
groups to the Israel seminar (this year's group of forty being
the largest ever group from one Mini-School site), was presented
with a certificate of appreciation in honor of her ten years
of dedicated service to the Mini-School.
