THE MINI-SCHOOL NOW ON THE CONTINENT OF AFRICA
At the beginning of March, the Jewish Community of Cape Town on the southern tip of Africa, will join the FMAMS international network. The response has been overwhelming, with enough people already signed up to open two full classes and a list is already gathering for a morning class and a waiting list for the second cycle. Classes will be held on the premises of the Herzlia Jewish Day School and will be taught by Prof. Jeremy Wanderer, an ex-Melton teacher in London and a philosophy lecturer at the University of Cape Town and Rebbetzin Yona Lazarus.

"We felt that Cape Town was at a crossroads in terms of Jewish learning and that there is a good niche market here because of the need for diversity in Jewish learning," said Vivienne Anstey, the new Director who isthrilled that Cape Town is joining this prestigious project of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Viv is looking forward to the impact of this international programme which offers a unique teaching and learning style; from the responses Cape Town seems ready to embrace this new model of continuous adult Jewish learning. We are very excited!"
Dr Sally Frankental, a board and a founding member is elated by what Melton promises to bring to Cape Town: “The program offers a unique opportunity to create informed Jews who will be able to match their emotional attachment to Klal Yisrael and their yiddishkeit with a deeper understanding of the elements that constitute our Jewish heritage.”
Dr. Jonathan Mirvis, International Director and ex Cape Townian expressed his excitement at this historic opening. “Hopefully Cape Town will prove to be Melton’s gateway to other large communities in South Africa”.
The Mini-School will run under the auspices of the Midrasha Adult Education Institute, generously sponsored by The Kramer Foundation, United Herzlia Schools, the L.A. Pincus Fund for Jewish Education in the Diaspora, Israel and the Cape Council of the SA Jewish Board of Deputies.
A warm welcome to the Cape Town Jewish community as you join the Melton family.
