Buffalo Graduation 2006

After two years of studying together, the seventh class of the Florence Melton Adult Mini-School in Buffalo gathered together for their graduation ceremony with family and friends. The graduation was part of the Bureau of Jewish Education’s Annual Meeting, held at the Westwood Country Club on June 7, 2006.
In welcoming guests, Evie Weinstein, Executive Director of the Bureau, and Ethel Melzer, Buffalo Site Director of the Melton School, expressed their admiration and pride in the commitment and perseverance of the graduating class. On behalf of the graduates, Linda Boxer presented a gift to the Melton faculty members: Dr. Gerald Berkowitz, Rabbi Mordechai Friedfertig and Rabbi Harry Rosenfeld. Rabbi Friedfertig and Ethel Melzer presented the graduation certificates from Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Gifts to the graduates consisted of the book, A Boring Evening at Home, personally signed by the author, Gerda Klein. A highlight of the evening was a DVD address from Florence Melton, founder of the Florence Melton Adult Mini-School.
The 2006 graduates are part of the 3,000 Mini-School students in 62 sites around the world attending graduation ceremonies this month. The FMAMS, a project of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, is the largest pluralistic adult Jewish education network in the world. Buffalo is grateful to the Jewish Federation and the Bureau of Jewish Education and is proud to be part of this important program.
The evening was a wonderful culmination of two years of enriching study; however, the graduates agreed that this was not the end to their learning, but a significant entry into joining the “Jewish conversation”. Jewish learning is now a way of life for them and they look forward to further study opportunities and a Melton Israel Seminar in the future.
For further information on how you can become part of this rewarding educational network, please contact Ethel Melzer, Buffalo Site Director, at the Bureau of Jewish Education at 689-8844. A new year of study begins on September 6 and there is room for you at the table.
