Austin Melton students and graduates meet world-renowned photographer Frederic Brenner

By Aliza Orent
October 2008
In October, the Austin Texas Melton students and graduates had a rare and exclusive opportunity to meet the world renowned photographer Frederic Brenner. Brenner's groundbreaking photographic account of Jewish culture, community and identity represents the most extensive visual record of Jewish life ever created. Brenner has traveled the world to document the lives of Jews on five continents and created the first visual anthology of the Jewish Diaspora. His photography is astounding, bold and fascinating.
The Melton participants met at the local Austin Texas Hillel for an intimate dinner with the photographer and then walked over to the University of Texas Humanities Research Center to hear a community lecture that was part of the Jewish Bookfair. The gathering was in part an opportunity for regional director Annie Glickman to meet with the Melton Council to hear how the FMAMS is expanding and changing. Annie gave an overview of the changes and also discussed with the group how they might develop future council events and a more solid alumni association.
