After two years of studying together the 6th graduate class of the Florence Melton Adult Mini-School in Austin gathered together with their families at the JCAA May 30th for their graduation ceremony. The graduates this year are: Susan Epstein, Jennifer Repass, Steve Burger, Shoshanah Dietz, Teri Golden, Kim Kahn, Sara Kolett, Sonia Paban, Pam Prais, Miriam Schimmoller, Natalie Weinstein, and Meredith Klein.
The graduates were presented with their certificates from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Rabbi Geoffrey W. Dennis, author of The Encyclopedia of Jewish Myth, Magic and Mysticism was the guest speaker for the evening delivering a talk on “Dybbuks and Demons and Golems, Oh My!: An Introduction to the Monstrous in Judaism.
The 12 graduates are part of 3000 Mini-School students in 60 sites around the world attending graduation ceremonies this month. This group of students have studied over the past two years with Dana Baruch, Rabbi Alan Freedman; Denelle Silver, Hazzan Neil Blumoffe, Rabbi Ben Sternman and Sarah Miller. The graduates were also honored at the JCAA annual meeting.
The graduation ceremony was a wonderful culmination of the two years of enriching study. The graduates realize that this is not an end to their study, but a significant entry into joining the Jewish conversation. Jewish learning is a way of life for them and they look forward to the study opportunities that the graduate program will offer them as well.
