Melton Classes Graduate; New Registration Begins
Twenty Florence Melton Adult Mini-School students will mark the completion of their two years of Jewish studies at graduation ceremonies in May. All students will receive a Certificate of Jewish Studies from Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Of particular note is that the PEP Class of ’06 is the first such class to graduate in the history of Melton in Richmond.
PEP (Parent Education Program) is an adaptation of the Melton curriculum that focuses on nurturing the growing Jewish identity of one’s family in a pluralistic, inspiring and intellectually stimulating environment. PEP Graduates are: David & Rebecca Haine, Arthur Harrow, Jennifer Lange, Tom & Pam Shipley, Alec & Leah Shull, Allie Vered and Dana Zedd. The “Core” Graduates are: Catherine Bergstrom, Sonya Brockstein, Frona Colker, Mary Kay Goldschmidt, Brian Grossman, Lisa Halberstadt, Michele Hampton, Melody Imburg, Ricki Lanyi, and Carole Weinstein.
Among the first to congratulate the students are the Melton instructors: Rachel Goldberg, Rabbi Merrill Shapiro, and Rabbi Daniel Yolkut. Melton School is designed to provide an intellectually stimulating, pluralistic learning environment using classic Jewish sources, from Biblical through contemporary texts, and to investigate issues of Jewish thought, practice and ethics. It includes four courses taken over two years. They are Rhythms of Jewish Living, Purposes of Jewish Living, Ethics of Jewish Living, and Dramas of Jewish Living.
