| Directors
meet with Prof. Menachem Magidor, President of the Hebrew
University |
Directors
traveled from all corners of the globe to Jerusalem to participate
in the Ninth International Directors' Conference. From the first
moments of the opening dinner on Har Hatzofim the energy
and excitement transformed the atmosphere and all pre-travel
apprehensions vanished.
For
one week we studied together Torah Lishma, with Prof Avigdor
Shinan, Prof Rachel Elior and Dr Howie Deitcher,
Hebrew language and Israeli culture and involved ourselves in
the issues of professional development which were led by our
own outstanding staff and directors. The tiyulim of Mt. Scopus,
the Israel Museum and Jaffa-Tel Aviv made us feel a part of
Israel's ancient vibrant history and today's living culture.
Prof.
Menachem Magidor, President of the Hebrew University,
encapsulated the importance of the work of the Mini-School
in the Diaspora. He demonstrated his commitment, and that
of the Hebrew University, to the Mini-School and to Jewish
education worldwide, and reaffirmed the Melton message of
Jewish learning, which we will all take back to our communities.

An
important moment of the Conference was when the first two
directors to qualify for Directors Certification were honored
at the Shabbat Lunch. Betsy Dolgin Katz, the North
American Director, presented a plaque to Judy Meltzer
from Baltimore and Orly Lewis from Richmond.
This
ninth meeting of the Directors in Jerusalem strengthened the
connection between the Mini-Schools, the Hebrew University
and Israel. The directors return to their schools invigorated
and motivated to continue their excellent work in the implementation
of our mission.
