7th Graduation/Hagshamah
Torah Study is as important as all the other commandments combined
because study leads to action. – Rambam
The quote from Rambam above was the theme of this year’s Melton Celebration of Learners.
Our vision is to enrich Jewish life though Jewish learning. We are committed to the continuity and advancement of the Jewish conversation. We believe that by continuing to learn together through shared study and discussion we enrich our minds, our souls and our lives. This is why, although there is special recognition of our Second Year Core Students, we celebrate all of our Melton learners this year – which numbered 99.
As 29 students completed the Second Year Core Curriculum we had a very wide range of ages, from a 3 week old (who technically went to every class with is mom) to a 91 year old. A special Certificate of honor was given to this graduate quoting Leviticus 19:32 Thou shalt rise up before the senior, and honor the face of the elder, and thou shalt fear thy God: I am the LORD
מִפְּנֵי שֵׂיבָה תָּקוּם וְהָדַרְתָּ פְּנֵי זָקֵן וְיָרֵאתָ מֵּאֱלֹהֶיךָ אֲנִי יְהוָה׃
As is our custom, we had 3 speakers, a Scholars Student, a first year and a second year student. All three speakers did a great gob of offering a varied account of their Melton experience. Our Second Year’s student’s talk is attached.
WE CAME WANTING TO LEARN…
… WE LEFT WANTING TO LEARN MORE!
