Thoughts
and Prayers with the People of New Orleans
Our hearts and thoughts and prayers are with the people of
New Orleans, especially our dear friend Teri Gross,
director of the Melton site there. New Orleans is home
to about 17,000 in the Jewish community, and a long and
proud tradition which is uniquely Southern, uniquely Jewish.
Our Mini-School is housed in the Federation building on the
beautiful new campus in Metarie, along with a day school and
other Jewish community agencies. We pray that when the time
is right, the vibrant Jewish life that filled those halls
will return once again, and our Melton students will return
to study.
We hope to be able to let all our Melton family know--as details
become available--how we can lend a hand in the recovery
and rebuilding of the Jewish community. And in the meantime,
we must encourage all our students to contribute
to the many agencies responding to the crisis now facing
so many of the victims.
These include:
United
Jewish Communities (Federations)
Jewish
Reconstructionist Federation
Union
for Reform Judaism
United
Synagogue of Conservative Judaism
