Press Release:
Loren Sykes To Launch A New Era For Melton Mini-School

August 2008
Melton graduates largest class in its history

Beginning in August, Rabbi Loren Sykes takes the reigns of The Florence Melton Adult Mini-School as the new Director of the North American division. Rabbi Sykes takes over from Dr Betsy Dolgin Katz who was the founding director and led this division since its inception in 1986.

Rabbi Sykes was the founding director of Ramah Darom and has an outstanding record of educational leadership and innovation. He is the winner of The Covenant Award for outstanding educational leadership and is universally recognized in the field of Jewish education as one of the outstanding young educational leaders. During the past year he was a fellow at The Hebrew University’s Melton Center Senior Educators Program. According to Dr Jonathan Mirvis, International Director of the Mini-School, Loren’s leadership and educational skills make him the ideal successor to Dr Betsy Katz.

Mr Gordon Zacks, Chairman of the Board, believes that Loren is ideally suited to articulate the Mini-School vision and build on the success of the first two decades under Betsy Katz’s leadership and is certain that this appointment will have a major impact not only on the Mini-School but upon the field of adult Jewish Education at large.

Other recent appointments represent a new structure for the 23 year old network. Judy Mars Kupchan is Associate Director, and new Regional Directors are Rabbi Efrat Zarren Zohar of Miami, Annie Glickman of Dallas, Sue Parker Gerson of Denver. Jennie Mohl of New Jersey is the new Marketing Director in the NY region and Rabbi David Rosenberg of Chicago is the new Director of Faculty.
