Portland
Graduation 2003 |
The third graduation class of the Florence Melton Adult Mini-school
in Portland, Oregon graduated 57 students of the 180 that participated
in Melton this past year. The graduation was filled with speeches
reflecting the growth and depth that the students, community
leaders and graduates express about the Melton program. Currently
300 individuals and their families have been impacted by Melton
in Portland.
Mr.
Hank Kaplan, President of Morasha: The Jewish Community Education
Alliance, a member of the Melton Steering Committee, and himself
a past graduate of Melton, attributed, in his speech, the
success of Portland's school to three factors: the great teachers,
the dynamic director Eliana Temkin, and the
ongoing support of the Holzman family, who were present in
the audience, together with other members of the community.
