About the Director
Raisa Moroz was born in the Former Soviet Union (FSU), Republic of Belarus. Even though her family is Jewish, in the FSU religion was prohibited and she grew up knowing nothing about the culture and religion. After 1985, religion slowly became allowed and when in 1992 her six-year old daughter was enrolled in the Jewish Sunday School, Raisa, too, began to explore Judaism.

Raisa's family, which includes her husband Valeriy, two daughters Marina(18), Yelena (10) and she arrived in Tucson in April 1996. In November 1997 Raisa was hired as a part-time New American Program Coordinator for the Jewish Federation of Southern Arizona. She learned much about Judaism and Jewish culture and helped to educate many Jewish families from the FSU who resettled in Tucson. As her knowledge grew, she was able to contribute to the events held by the Department of Jewish Education & Identity as well as Jewish Federation events. Starting January 2004 she became the Adult Program Coordinator in addition to her position as New American Program Coordinator. In May 2004 Raisa graduated from Melton and now has added the position of Melton Director to her portfolio.

She looks forward to many more years of Jewish education and exploration.
