About the Director
Born and raised in Long Beach, California, Rabbi Karen Strok graduated Phi Beta Kappa from U.C. Santa Cruz with a B.A. in Religious Studies. She continued her education in Los Angeles at the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (HUC-JIR) where she received Master’s Degrees in Hebrew Letters and Jewish Education, and rabbinic ordination in 2002. Before directing the Melton Mini School at Stephen S. Wise Temple, she taught ethics in the Canejo Valley Melton Mini School. Since ordination, she has worked at Milken Community Middle School for three years, taught at the Stephen S. Wise religious school for two years, directed an educational resource center, served as an education consultant at HUC for four years, and coordinated an alternative Hebrew program at Temple Judea for two years.

Rabbi Strok is thrilled to share her passion for adult Jewish learning with the Stephen S. Wise Temple community. She looks forward to continuing to provide tools that will help members navigate their way through Jewish texts and traditions. It is with great enthusiasm that Rabbi Strok continues to grow the program, now offering first and second year courses. Her husband Joshua and sons Micah and Avi share her excitement about the opportunities that lie ahead at Stephen S. Wise Temple.
