About the Director

Aliza Orent is the Director of Jewish Life and Learning Division at the Jewish Community Association of Austin. She has been with the Association since 1998. Her responsibilities include the organization and implementation of Judaic classes, seminars, workshops, conferences, community holiday celebrations and as well as acting as a resource for individuals traveling to Israel. She oversees the Austin BJE and is responsible for the development and implementation of the Jewish consciousness of the agency, including the creation and direct presentation of programs for all ages.

Aliza is also the Director of the Florence Melton Adult Mini-School. In addition, she is responsible for the creation of the summer camp Judaic curriculum and assists with the creation of the Judaic component of the Early Childhood Program curriculum.

Prior to serving in this position, she worked in St. Paul, MN, from 1987-1998. During those years she served as Camp Director, Youth Director and finally as the Jewish Education specialist and coordinator of the FMAMS.

Aliza received her BFA from Rochester Institute of Technology in 1982 and her MSW from the University of Michigan in 1984. In 1991-1992 Aliza received a fellowship from the Melton Centre for Jewish Education in the Diaspora at Hebrew University in Jerusalem and obtained a certificate in Jewish Education.

Aliza has had the privilege of living in a variety of interesting places in her life, including Ethiopia, Arizona (on an Indian reservation), New Hampshire, New York, and Israel (Ramat Aviv, Maoz Aviv, and Herzaliya) from 1971-77. Aliza lives in Austin, Texas, with her sons Eytan and Matan.
